Module 4 departs from the classical tools of change management and explores the new role that corporate executives have to take in the digital world. Which kind of organizational structures suits best for new digital business models? How can we reach the best outcome of products and services? Which kind of collaboration has the most positive effect on productivity and desired outcome? Which kind of leadership do we need to set the right guardrails for our teams? Leading organizations and implementing organizational change in the digital age requires vision, flexibility and empathy. During this module, participants will be challenged in group discussions and caselets, and they have to sketch a personal action plan.

Program Directors Executive Development Programs, ESMT Berlin

Christoph Burger is a senior lecturer at ESMT Berlin. Before joining ESMT, he worked five years in industry at Otto Versand and as vice president at the Bertelsmann Buch AG, five years at consulting practice Arthur D. Little, and five years as independent consultant focusing on private equity financing of SMEs.

His research focus is in the energy sector/ innovation/ blockchain and decision making/ negotiation. He is co-author of the dena/ ESMT study on “blockchain in the energy transition”, the “ESMT Innovation Index – Electricity Supply Industry” and the book “The Decentralized Energy Revolution – Business Strategies for a New Paradigm”. Christoph directs and teaches in open enrolment programs decision making, blockchain, innovation as a corporate model, customized programs in the energy, banking industry as well as programs for international senior executives such as the Yale Global Executive Leadership Program, CKGSB CEO/ EMBA program or the supervisory board program for Deutsche Telekom. He is a speaker in conferences of dena, eco-summit, energinet, IAEE, KAPSARC, OMIE, a member of the jury of the GreenTec Awards and the Dena Startup Energy Transition Award as well as mentor at accelerators such as the start-up bootcamp, GTEC or Axel Springer Plug and Play.

Christoph studied business administration at the University of Saarbrücken (Germany), the Hochschule St. Gallen (Switzerland), and economics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (USA).

Bianca Schmitz is a co-director of the Hidden Champions Institute (HCI) and a program director at ESMT Berlin.
She is responsible for establishing new international alliances with other business schools, institutions and networks, such as the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM). Her focus lies on agile innovation processes, especially of so-called Hidden Champions. She has been trained in Design Thinking by Hasso Plattner Institute and is a certified SCRUM Product Owner. She studied Regional Sciences of Latin America at the University of Cologne and finished with a diploma. Her focus was on economics and the Spanish language. Bianca worked for three years at the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), a nonprofit organization based in Cologne, Germany, with branches throughout the world. Bianca’s international profile is supplemented by two years of work experience in Spain.

HOW YOU UPGRADE YOUR CERTIFICATE TO DIGITAL EXCELLENCE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE?

The Post-graduate Certificate in Digital Excellence for CxO's is a university- level certificate offered by 41 North Business School in partnership ESMT Berlin. To acquire this certificate, candidates have to enroll for a minimum of six program modules (12 days) spread over a period of a year. We have further divided the course of study into six tracks. The programs have been designed – and will be led – by 41 North Business School in partnership with ESMT faculty members and 41 North's visiting faculty, who will also advise participants throughout their studies. Programs are offered in English.

WHAT YOU LEARN?

Understanding Leadership and Being a Leader in a Digital World provides managers with methods and measures that help them respond to the urgent necessity of being able to lead their businesses within increasingly digitalised markets. Module thereby places a special focus on leadership skills that are crucial for leading people in a digital environment. The program also encourages participants to become drivers of change in their companies by developing new mindsets and behaviours within teams and departments. Through experiential learning and by tapping into new didactical approaches (e.g., gamification and prototyping), Understanding Leadership and Being a Leader in a Digital World helps participants understand not only the “what” of digitalisation but also the “how” of becoming an excellent leader for a truly digitalised future. Module covers the understanding, adaption, and immediate application of newly gained knowledge in a state-of-the-art approach. Participants will be guided through a learning journey that is rich in new business perspectives and impactful leadership approaches.
